Work Placements

The programme works with students to help them find exciting and appropriate work placements at the end of their second year.

Here are two examples.

Charlotte Jagger –  Tokyo University

As part of her major project work looking at modern drinking vessles inspired  and influence by the japanese tea ceremony. Charlotte applied for and was awarded a scholarship to travel to Japan to experience more about the culture and context as a way to inform her project work.

Abby Collier

IOR group invited Abby Collier to join us for her work experience in the summer of 2010, following in the footsteps of previous York St John University students. Ior are an office design and fit–out company  based in Richmond, Surrey, and work varies in scale from multi million pound high level office design work to smaller scale space planning and office fit-out.

Abby chose to approach an interior design group in London who is one of our partner companies for a summer placement ”iorgroup’. She worked closely with Jane O’ Connor, Creative Director to gain an insight into a daily routine for a typical design company. http://www.iorgroup.co.uk/

Abby came prepared with a good grounding of computer software knowledge that enabled her to benefit from her experience and become a useful member of staff. Her attitude was ‘can do’ and she applied enthusiastically to the tasks set. She was able to help with the space planning off CAD plan layouts, production of hand sketches and photoshop visuals as well as sample boards and powerpoint presentations. Ior would welcome further work experience candidates from YSJ.
